The physical launch event of the Horizon Europe project modernAKIS was held in Rome on 7–9 November 2022, with the participation of our colleagues Dr. Pál Goda Managing Director, Lívia Kránitz Senior Expert and Dr. Szabolcs Vágó Institute Project Manager. This marks the official start of the seven-year project with a total budget of around EUR 10 million. The large-scale event took place under special circumstances in the exclusive premises of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
The project consortium consists of 36 partners representing all EU Member States. One of the main objectives of the launch event was to review and understand the project’s activities, to form collaborative teams and to plan the first steps. AKI’s tasks are mainly related to WP4 (implementation of the AKIS strategy, monitoring and evaluation), but we are involved in all work packages and in most of the tasks. The project will be implemented over a seven-year period, during which our involvement will be continuous and intensive, with a lot of travel.
The aim of modernAKIS is to improve the individual, organisational and systemic capacities of the actors of the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) at EU level, thereby supporting the move towards more efficient and effective AKIS systems, in close cooperation with the AttractISS and EU FarmBook projects. All this provides an excellent opportunity and background for the AKI to contribute to the design, development and operation of national AKIS.
